Course Descriptions

Asbestos Worker

The class for the Asbestos Worker is a comprehensive course identifying history of Asbestos, Health Effects, PEE and Site Safety, Hazard Communications, and Monitoring & Final Cleanup. Individuals who successfully complete the course will apply to Illinois Department of Public Health for an Asbestos Abatement Worker License.

Asphalt

This 40-Hour course provides hands-on training in the placement, spreading, and compaction of asphalt materials. Topics include: safety, basics, placing methods, repairing and patching.

Blueprint Reading

The student will study Building Prints, the in-depth use of prints and application of site, utilities, foundations, and elevations plans. Learn how to read and apply information with the correct formulas. The student will study Highway Prints to learn the different views such as plan, cross sections, profile and the formulas to apply what you see on the plans for Highway Construction.

Bridge 

This course is a 40-hour session designed to comply with the specific needs of signatory contractors who are engaged in bridge construction, renovation, and demolition projects. Such topics include electrical safety, excavations, hazardous communications, confined spaces, lead and silica, scaffolding/fall protection, rigging and signaling, man lift safety, hand and power tools, cutting and burning.

Concrete Specialists

The Concrete Specialist course is a Four-week session. Trainees will use ACI (American Concrete Institute) workbook and gain much hands-on experience with sidewalks and driveways; curb; rubbing & grinding; slick finish floors; stamping.

Construction Math

Class begins with a review of basic math and develops into instruction of angles, degrees, SIN and COSIN and will prepare individual for additional training in either Total Station or GPS class.

Cutting And Coring

The Cutting and Coring Class teaches students new cutting and coring techniques, common safe practices and procedures for concrete floors, walls, and decks.

Forklift

Individuals will be trained in the use of rough terrain fork-lift following the standard set by OSHA.

GPS

Upon successful completion of this module, the participant will be able to understand construction site coordinate systems. Demonstrate familiarity with a typical GPS, measure horizontal and vertical angles and distances. 

Grade Checking

In 40 hours, Trainees will learn basic construction surveying, construction staking, electronic theodolite, line and grade checking, and laser tracking level. - ILCJATP Instructor Tracy Whitecotton.

Hazardous Waste Worker

This course meets all OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 requirements and is mandatory for all workers involved in hazardous waste cleanup. This course doubles as OSHA's 40-hour minimum training requirements due to extensive hands on exercises. Topics include: hazard recognition and identification, hazard communication regulations, health effects, legal rights, personal protective equipment, decontamination, site safety and health plans, material handling, storage and transportation; workplace monitoring, superfund and community relations.

Landscaping

This 40 hour course provides classroom and hands-on training. Topics include planting and transplanting, hand and power tools, landscaping designs, pruning and chemical safety.

Lead Abatement Worker

Class covers all aspects of lead abatement including: Medical clearance and fit testing for a respirator, History of lead; Health Effects; Work Site Safety; Lead Regulations; Work Practices and Abatement Methods; Disposal Procedures, and Legal Rights. Individuals who successfully complete this course will apply to Illinois Department of Public Health for Lead Abatement Worker License.

Mason Tending

This 40-hour course introduces trainees to the following topics: safety, project planning, scaffold assembly, estimating and proper stocking, mortar and grout mixing, tending the mason, rough terrain forklift operation, and reinforced masonry construction.

New Apprentice

This 43-hour course is required for new apprentices. After the course is completed, an apprentice will have an understanding of OSHA regulations, basic math, hazard communication, basic rigging/knot tying, back injury prevention, drug/alcohol awareness, sun sense, first aid/cpr, and flagging.

OSHA 30 Hours

The OSHA 30-Hour class gives an in depth look at 29 CFR 1926 OSHA Standards that includes navigating the standards publication and accessing information on the various sub-parts with the OSHA Standards Book. Participants must attend this course in its entirety to be eligible for a 30-hour OSHA Card.

Pipelaying

After a one-day classroom session, the Pipelaying course is 40 hours of hands on training including trench safety, gravity-flow pipe techniques and pressure pipe. 

Pipeline Safety

The pipeline safety course covers laborers hands on tasks in the field of pipeline work (gas & petroleum), coatings, fencing, skidding, tailing pipe, etc.

Pipe OQ

The Pipe OQ is a 40-hour course that pertains to the pipeline rule 192 and 195 of the OSHA regulations. Testing and hands-on training for laborers tasks in the field of pipeline work.

Scaffold Course

Scaffolding is a two-week course following standard 29 CFT 1926 OSHA Subparts E, L and M. Students will learn proper PPE and Fall Arrest Systems. Students will also learn to build Mason King; Systems; Tue & Clamp; 2-point Suspension; and Frame Scaffolds.

Shotcrete

This 40-hour course is for Journeymen with a prerequisite of at least 500 shotcrete nozzling hours. Journeymen will be ACI Shotcrete Nozzleman Certified after course is completed. Topics include: choosing the right wet-mix shotcrete pump for the job, mix designs, nozzle types, proper nozzling techniques, and safety issues to consider with wet-mix shotcrete.

Symon Forms

The Symon Forms class is designed to give the trainee exposure to Symons Steel Ply, Resi Ply, and Symons Silver. Learn how to estimate accurately all components for any shape framework. It includes some math and most important, proper layout procedures.

Trenching And Excavating

Class will review the regulations of trench safety. Students will set-up hydraulic shores, trench box and sheet shoring and overview one-call system and locating basics.

Vesol

The VESOL program will prepare students with limited English to take training and help them communicate with fellow workers on job sites.
